After years of looking for unique pieces of antiques and art, and months of hard work on developing this website, we have decided to 'go-live' with our @Kris Arts & Antiques concept. All of the objects that we will offer via this website have a story that we would like to share with you. We have acquired things during our travels, on 'salvage hunt' or as part of gathering items of a collection.
Roland's love of Antiques all started with his 'Urania' collection, which is a collection of Silver Pewter designed by amongst others Friedrich Adler. Adler, who was Jewish, was deported to Auschwitz and did not survive the Second World War.
When we just met, I had no appreciation for his knowledge and passion for this subject. I felt it was old-fashioned and boring. Gathering antiques was not for me. However, over the years, I started to understand you can combine antique objects with a modern styling.
And what is a better way to kick this off by sharing some of the unique pieces in our collection - see the bottom of this blog.
1. On the left you see a combination of pieces from our personal collection - some you will find on our website, others we will keep ourselves. We have spend several years living in the US and both the handmade wooden closet (made of recycled wood), the bottles and the antique car and plane are from the US.
2. During our stay abroad we have remodeled the kitchen of our old farm house and for a long time we have been looking for an unique piece on the wall. We have chosen for a historic tile tableau from Rozenburg and it fits very nicely with the colors.
3. We like to combine a modern interior with antique pieces and have done this in our seating area of the kitchen where an antique drawing finishes the look.
There you go - antique does not have to be boring and can be very nicely combined with a modern interior. Hopefully, you will also get inspired to start 'hunting' for unique pieces in your home.
