A refined and sculptural piece by Carlo Nason for Mazzega, designed in the 1970s and featured in the Mazzega Catalogue No. 9 on page 232. Nason’s work is recognized for its bold, architectural presence and seamless use of Murano glass techniques.

Design

This crystal bowl, model S468, presents a defined structure—clean and compact, yet fluid in form. Made of thick handblown Murano glass, its rectangular base supports a dynamic crest-like top. A white glass band flows down from the rim into the body in a gentle arc, creating contrast and visual weight. The band isn’t painted—it is fused within the glass during the blowing process, an integral part of the piece. From every angle, the shape reveals a shift in volume: from curved recesses to sharp transitions between surface and edge. Measuring 23 by 26 centimeters and standing 21 centimeters high, the bowl was originally offered in either coral or white striped variants, though the example shown here features the white version. While classified as a bowl, its visual identity leans towards an object of form—a sculptural centerpiece rather than a functional item.

Designed by Carlo Nason and executed by Mazzega, this work sits at the intersection of function and form. It reflects the controlled yet expressive approach typical of Nason’s design language.

Condition

This example is in very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks, only minimal surface wear consistent with age.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
