A refined expression of early 20th-century design, this Art Nouveau armchair reflects a moment where structure and ornament move in quiet harmony. The piece carries a sense of intention in every line, offering both function and a subtle decorative presence.
Design
The chair is executed in stained wood, likely beech or a similar hardwood, with a warm, reddish-brown tone that has developed a gentle patina over time. Its backrest is divided into two elongated panels, softly arched and framed by sculptural uprights that taper and shift with controlled movement. These vertical elements extend into the arm supports, creating a continuous visual rhythm. The armrests themselves are slightly angled and rest on a sequence of slender, faceted supports, adding lightness to the overall composition. Beneath the seat, a geometric framework of stretchers reinforces the structure while introducing a contrasting linear discipline. Upholstery in a textured, olive-toned fabric has been renewed, chosen to sit comfortably within the frame and respect the period character. The design suggests Central European influence, possibly Austrian or Belgian, where the transition from flowing Art Nouveau forms towards more structured geometry began to take shape.
A chair that balances presence and restraint, suited for use as an occasional seat, desk chair, or as part of a curated interior where early modern design is appreciated.
Condition
The condition is very good following restoration. The frame has been carefully refinished and the seat and back have been reupholstered; only light, age-related traces remain visible on the wood.
Quality, flexibility, very good communication, very happy with the coffee table I bought.
Table arrived very well crated, seller made process seamless.
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
