Designed by Luigi Massoni for Poltrona Frau in 1972, the Dinette armchair brings together an enveloping backrest and a distinctive architectural base. Cognac leather covers the chair throughout, giving its sculptural form a warm, consistent appearance. Subtle variations in tone and surface texture add character to this vintage piece.

Design

The curved backrest wraps around the seat, with closely spaced vertical padded channels continuing across both its inner and outer surfaces. This repeated detailing gives the upholstery depth and rhythm, while the smooth side panels provide a quieter counterpart.

Extending down to the floor, these leather-covered panels form broad supports with rounded lower corners. An opening beneath the backrest keeps the silhouette visually light. Small metal fittings finish the feet, introducing a discreet contrast to the leather.

A padded seat cushion sits within the surrounding structure, its gently rounded edges echoing the backrest. Viewed from behind, the Dinette reveals the same attention to proportion and upholstery, making it particularly suited to placement where its curved profile remains visible. The Poltrona Frau manufacturer’s label is present beneath the seat.

Condition

The photographs show age-related patina, creasing, light surface scratches and scattered small marks to the leather. Localised rubbing is visible along some edges, with wear also present on the metal feet. These traces of use contribute to the chair’s vintage character.
