This sculptural floor lamp is a remarkable piece from the 1970s, designed by Gaetano Sciolari. Known for merging brutalist aesthetics with glamorous materials, Sciolari’s work redefined lighting in post-war Italy, balancing raw structure with refined finishes.

Design

Three vertical columns in dark, patinated metal rise at staggered heights, each crowned with a solid glass cap. These clear tops are precisely molded into intricate, architectural forms, reminiscent of crystalline cityscapes. When illuminated, the internal light source diffuses warmly through the translucent tops, revealing detailed surface textures and creating a moody ambient glow. The composition is geometric yet organic, with the columns arranged in a compact base, evoking clustered organ pipes or industrial chimneys. The wiring is discreetly integrated, preserving the piece’s clean silhouette.

Gaetano Sciolari’s rationale often involved combining cold materials with warm light to generate contrast and emotion — a philosophy clearly present here. His designs rarely followed trends, instead focusing on sculptural form, visual rhythm, and luxurious contrasts.

An expressive object that stands equally well as sculpture and source of light. While minimalist in palette, it exudes complexity through texture and structure. The play of light through the acrylic tops brings movement to the otherwise static form.

Condition

This lamp is in good vintage condition with only minor signs of wear. The wiring is functional and the glass elements are well preserved, with no significant damage.
