A commanding presence with rhythmic symmetry, this large brutalist cabinet is an exemplar of late 20th-century craftsmanship. Its architectural facade and rich materiality lend it a sense of weight and permanence.

Design
The cabinet features a rigorous grid of five double-door compartments, each with heavily textured geometric fronts. Crafted from wenge, a dense, dark tropical hardwood, the doors display a powerful grain pattern that heightens the sculptural effect. The square recessed panels form a trompe-l’œil play of depth, with a darker core at their centre, creating a visual illusion that recalls both minimalist abstraction and Art Deco reliefs.

The patinated blackened metal key handles subtly interrupt the order of the composition, adding just enough contrast. Inside, the construction is methodical and purposeful: open compartments alternate with shelving units and a set of drawers on the far left, suggesting a careful balancing of aesthetic rigour and domestic function. The cabinet rests on a plinth base that emphasises its architectural stance, reminiscent of monumental brutalist structures.

Although unsigned, the style aligns with pieces by French and Belgian makers working in the post-war brutalist idiom, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. The craftsmanship and material choices suggest it may have been produced by an atelier familiar with bespoke or limited series furniture.

Condition
In very good vintage condition. Minor surface wear consistent with age. The interior wood is clean, and all compartments function smoothly. Original hardware is present and intact.
