Italian lighting from the 1970s often combined architectural forms with exceptional glassmaking. This large wall lamp, attributed to Venini, is a refined example of this approach, transforming a restrained vertical silhouette through the depth and clarity of Murano glass.

Design‍

The lamp features a substantial curved shade in thick clear Murano glass, mounted on a concealed metal frame. Its surface is moulded with a precise relief of rounded square lenses, creating a rhythmic grid across the entire shade. Two brass-toned fixing caps provide a subtle contrast to the transparent glass.

When illuminated, the sculpted relief captures and refracts the light, producing a warm, even glow and a soft wash across the surrounding wall. When switched off, the transparency of the glass reveals the remarkable precision and depth of its moulded construction.

Attributed to Venini and produced in Italy during the 1970s, the lamp reflects the period’s growing interest in architectural lighting and expressive moulded glass. Rather than relying on applied decoration, the design allows the material to take centre stage. The rounded lenses give the clear glass an almost crystalline appearance, creating subtle reflections that change according to the viewing angle and surrounding light.

Condition‍

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with only minor signs of age and use consistent with its period. The glass presents well, retaining its clarity and pronounced relief. The brass-toned fixing caps display a gentle patina. It is fitted with two E27 light sockets and is ready for installation.
