A chair with an architectural frame and a calm, low-slung posture, Model 869 reflects Ico Parisi’s interest in structure, comfort and visual rhythm.

Design

‍Designed by Ico Parisi for Cassina in the 1960s, this lounge chair shows the Italian designer’s ability to bring craft and engineering into a domestic object. Parisi, active as an architect and furniture designer, often worked with clear construction, refined proportions and subtle tension between line and volume.

Here, the solid walnut frame carries the design. Its octagonal struts, horizontal slats and carved interlocking joints create a visible structural language. Each connection is treated as part of the composition rather than hidden from view. The timber expands at the points where the elements meet, giving the chair a sculptural presence from every angle.

The seat and backrest have been newly upholstered in green woven fabric, adding freshness without distracting from the frame. A reclined back, generous seat cushion and open side profile give the chair an informal elegance. Model 869 was also used in the interior of Hotel Lorena in Grosseto, placing it within Parisi’s broader work for refined Italian interiors.

With its expressive walnut construction and relaxed proportions, this chair works well as a reading chair, accent piece or design-led lounge chair in both residential and hospitality settings.

Condition‍

The chair has been newly upholstered in green fabric. The walnut frame shows minor signs of age and use, including small marks, all consistent with its period and visible in the detailed images.
