Lightness defines this pair of D 57 sofas by Mario Rinaldi for MIM Roma. New Dark blue upholstery meets an ivory-coloured metal frame, creating a clear balance between soft surfaces and an open structure. Each sofa seats two, offering a compact interpretation of Italian modernist seating.

Design

The frames follow the contours of the seats and backrests, with curved metal supports remaining visible from every angle. Viewed from behind, a series of upright bars traces the gently reclining backs, giving the sofas an architectural presence even when placed away from a wall. Slender, splayed legs end in small, gold-toned circular feet, introducing a subtle detail at floor level.

Padded armrests curve around the ends of the frame, continuing the blue upholstery across the upper surfaces. A central seam divides both the seat and back into two sections, lending rhythm to the otherwise uninterrupted cushions. Rather than concealing the construction, the design makes the relationship between frame and upholstery part of its character. Placed opposite one another, these sofas create an intimate setting for conversation. Their finished backs also suit an open-plan interior, where the curved framework can be appreciated alongside a low table or sculptural floor lamp.

This set is completely restored and newly upholstered in high quality faux leather.
