Italian designer Augusto Savini approached furniture with a particular interest in structure, proportion and material contrasts. His Pamplona chair, designed for Pozzi during the 1960s, reflects this approach through an architectural wooden frame and inviting upholstery. This set of four combines glossy black lacquer with cognac-coloured leather, giving the design a distinct character.

Design

The Pamplona chairs are defined by their geometric construction, where straight lines meet gently curved elements. Each chair features a black lacquered wooden frame with continuous armrests that extend into the front legs. Their angular silhouette is softened by a generously padded seat and a curved backrest, both upholstered in warm cognac leather.

An interesting detail is the way the backrest sits within the surrounding frame. Rather than forming a continuous wooden structure, the upholstered back appears suspended between the armrests, creating an open composition. The leather follows the curvature of the backrest, providing support without interrupting the chair's architectural outline.

Small metal fittings connect the structural elements, introducing a subtle contrast to the black lacquer. Particularly distinctive are the rectangular metal connectors visible along the split rear supports, where the construction becomes part of the design.

The combination of dark lacquer, cognac leather and metal detailing reflects the experimental character of Italian furniture design during the 1960s. Savini's composition balances geometric restraint with comfort, allowing the chairs to work equally well around a dining table or in a meeting room.

Together, the four chairs create a coherent arrangement, with their repeated silhouettes emphasising the rhythm of the design.

Condition

The chairs present well, with signs of age and use visible on the leather upholstery and lacquered frames. Light creasing, surface marks and minor wear contribute to their vintage character.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
