Ilmari Tapiovaara’s designs are defined by their functional clarity and refined craftsmanship. This rare teak sideboard, produced by La Permanente Mobili Cantù, embodies his approach to form and material. With a considered balance between structure and detailing, it presents a bold yet harmonious composition.
Design
The teak sideboard stands on an elevated wooden base, creating a sense of lightness while maintaining a strong presence. A symmetrical arrangement of storage compartments includes a large wooden sliding door, a smaller white fabric-clad sliding door, and four stacked drawers. The handles, crafted from the same warm-toned teak, echo the geometric language of the piece. Brass accents subtly enhance the open base, adding contrast to the deep, rich wood grain. The interplay between solid teak, textile, and brass highlights Tapiovaara’s ability to merge materials into a cohesive design.
A fine example of mid-century European craftsmanship, this piece showcases both aesthetic restraint and practical usability. The combination of materials and proportions reflects the era’s pursuit of innovative yet timeless furniture design.
Condition
The piece is in good condition with minor signs of use. A small restoration has been carried out on the middle right section of the top, blending well with the original patina.
Quality, flexibility, very good communication, very happy with the coffee table I bought.
I just received the absolutely gorgeous credenza yesterday. It was professionally packaged and delivered just as promised. I cannot more highly recommend AtKris Studio.
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
