Designed by Silvio Coppola for Bernini in the 1960s, this Italian sideboard embodies a rationalist approach to furniture design. Known for his architectural sensibility and focus on functionality, Coppola applied his modernist ethos to domestic objects with clarity and conviction. This sideboard stands as a fine example of his disciplined yet expressive hand.
Design
Crafted in solid walnut, the piece reveals a warm and uniform grain pattern that gives it a calm presence. The subtly faceted front, with its angled side cabinets, adds dimension without ornamentation. Two central doors open to a spacious compartment, flanked by curved corner drawers and side doors. Inside, the arrangement is thoughtfully executed with shelving that enhances its everyday usability. Rounded wooden knobs punctuate the design rhythmically, each echoing the geometric purity Coppola favoured. The stepped frame and thick overhanging top give the piece both visual weight and a grounded silhouette.
Bernini, one of the most prominent Italian manufacturers of the post-war period, was known for its close collaborations with architects and designers. Coppola’s work for the company fits within this legacy; functional, elegant and always considered.
Condition
This sideboard is in good vintage condition, with only light wear consistent with age. It has been partially restored. The wood shows a pleasing patina, and all compartments function smoothly.
I recently bought some amazing Artwork from AtKris Studio online. The whole experience was amazing. The transaction was amazingly efficient. The crating and shipping of the artwork to the United States from the Netherlands could not have gone smoother and the customer service was spot on!! Krista was amazing and I highly recommend AtKris Studio!
Table arrived very well crated, seller made process seamless.
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
