This sculptural console table by Belgochrom brings together material contrast and architectural clarity. A fine example of Belgian postmodern design from the 1970s–80s, it presents a refined visual balance between weight and transparency.

Design

The table’s geometric base consists of interlocked vertical panels in brass and clear acrylic, each arranged with near-symmetrical precision. The solid structure rests on a square plinth, grounding the column-like base and anchoring the composition. From there, the eye is drawn upwards to the dramatically cantilevered top: a slab of black marble veined with sharp white striations. This top is framed with stepped brass edges, each layer recessed to create a subtle rhythm of light and shadow. The result is a piece that plays confidently with volume and surface, opacity and reflection. Plexiglass allows the light to pass through and animate the form, while the marble lends depth and substance. Likely produced in Belgium, the console reflects the influence of both Art Deco revival and the Lucite design movement that gained traction in Europe during the 1970s. Though exact authorship is unconfirmed, the hand of Belgochrom is evident in the bold materials and crisp silhouette.

This piece offers a composed yet expressive design vocabulary. It lends itself well to both hallway and salon use, acting as either a standalone sculptural object or a platform for art and lighting.

Condition

The condition is good, with some surface wear to the brass and minor scratches on the base. There is a fissure in the marble top, though it is barely visible and does not affect the stability or appearance of the piece.
