During the 1980s, Italian design was undergoing a transformation; moving away from modernist restraint toward a language of invention and mechanical clarity. The 'Click' dining table, created in 1986 by Francesco Fois for Bernini, embodies that shift. Recognised by the Compasso d’Oro Selezione in 1987, and later featured in Design Italiano 1950–2000 by Giuliana Gramigna, this piece stands as a documented and awarded expression of postmodern innovation in functional design.
Design
The design centres on a three-part rotating top finished in cherry veneer, radiating from a central axis. With a smooth, engineered motion, the tabletop opens in a fan-like gesture to reveal three internal leaves. These pivot upward and complete the transformation from a compact round table into an organic, rounded triangle that comfortably accommodates six to nine.
The mechanical core is housed in a central triangular insert, detailed with a circular finger recess that allows precise engagement with the mechanism. Beneath, a steel textured black lacquered cone base anchors the composition and introduces sculptural contrast.
Fois, who trained as both an architect and engineer, brought a unique structural clarity to his furniture. Produced by Bernini the Click table translates those principles into a domestic object with architectural discipline and fluid utility.
Condition
The condition of the table is very good. The table shows minor signs of wear to the edges and a few scuffs on the mechanism insert, all consistent with use and age. The table is clearly signed 'Bernini'
I just received the absolutely gorgeous credenza yesterday. It was professionally packaged and delivered just as promised. I cannot more highly recommend AtKris Studio.
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
Table arrived very well crated, seller made process seamless.
