Carlo Nason’s work is closely associated with the expressive possibilities of glass. In the LP 273 wall lamp, a relatively compact composition becomes an architectural play of texture, transparency and projected light.

Design

Designed by Carlo Nason, the LP 273 is composed of substantial clear glass elements arranged in overlapping vertical layers. Their irregular surfaces, softened edges and visible variations give the glass an almost cast, sculptural appearance. A central panel in white sand-textured glass introduces a more diffuse surface between the transparent sections. Once illuminated, these different densities become particularly apparent: light passes freely through some areas and is softened or refracted by others.

Rather than concealing the light source behind a uniform shade, Nason uses the physical qualities of glass to shape its effect. Reflections gather along the thicker edges, small bubbles and irregularities become visible, and the textured surfaces break the light into changing patterns. Two vertical glass ribs add depth to the façade and reinforce its architectural character.

From the side, the layered construction projects from the wall and exposes more of the relationship between glass, metal mounting plate and light source. Once switched on, the lamp casts broad beams above and below, accompanied by softer reflections around its sides. This gives the LP 273 a presence that extends beyond the object itself.

Carlo Nason grew up within Murano’s glassmaking tradition and became known for translating its craft into modern lighting. Here, decoration is largely replaced by material: thickness, texture and transparency provide the visual interest.

Compact in scale yet sculptural in character, the LP 273 works particularly well in a hallway, beside a fireplace or as part of a repeated arrangement along a larger wall. Its appearance changes considerably between daylight and illumination.

Condition

This example is NOS (New Old Stock) and has therefore not previously been used. The glass and fittings present accordingly, with  minor traces associated with age and long-term storage.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
