A composition of textured glass and warm light, the “Quilt” wall lamp by Toni Zuccheri for Venini captures the experimental spirit of Murano lighting during the 1970s. Conceived as part of a modular lighting system, the model combines sculptural glasswork with architectural restraint. Zuccheri approached lighting as a medium capable of shaping atmosphere as much as space, and this series reflects that balance between utility and artistic expression.

Design

Produced by Venini in the 1970s, these appliques consist of moulded clear Murano glass panels suspended before a white lacquered metal frame. Across the centre runs a flowing amber-yellow band that appears almost suspended within the glass, creating depth once illuminated. The heavily textured surface softens and scatters the light, projecting subtle reflections onto the surrounding wall. Rounded contours and irregular edges give the composition an organic presence, contrasting with the geometric square format of the fixture itself.

Toni Zuccheri frequently worked with natural forms and irregular textures, moving away from the rigid symmetry often associated with modernist lighting of the period. In this design, the thick cast glass resembles flowing water or molten material caught in motion. The visible bronze-toned fastening screws add an industrial accent and reinforce the modular character of the series. Mounted individually or as a larger arrangement, the lamps shift between functional lighting and sculptural wall composition.

A warm and atmospheric design that reflects the experimental glass production for which Venini became internationally regarded during the post-war decades.

Condition

The lamps remain in very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use. Minor surface irregularities and small air inclusions are present within the glass, inherent to the production process. The metal frames and mounting hardware show a gentle patina.

Price per lamp is 1500 euro
