A luminous sculpture from Italy’s boldest design decade, this floor lamp by Poliarte is a confident expression of architectural form and light.
Design
Crafted in the 1970s, this tall floor lamp is built from a geometric arrangement of square glass modules alternating between warm amber and frosted crystal pulegoso glass. Each block is thick and weighty, with the pulegoso technique introducing minute bubbles within the glass, creating a clouded, milky texture that diffuses light with a gentle softness. The amber elements glow when lit, producing a golden warmth that contrasts with the cooler, frosted cubes.
Poliarte, founded in Verona in the 1960s, was known for its avant-garde approach to lighting design, favouring sculptural forms and artisanal glass techniques. The design of this lamp resembles a modernist tower—rhythmic, symmetrical, and unornamented. The stacked composition invites references to both Brutalist and Rationalist architecture, yet its materiality lends it a more sensuous edge. Internal bulbs are hidden within the core, allowing the glass itself to radiate. The design is both object and light source, decorative without decoration. Its rectangular footprint also allows it to function well in corners or along architectural lines.
A sculptural lighting piece that elevates the visual rhythm of a space with light, texture, and balance.
Condition
The condition is very good. The glass elements are intact with no chips or cracks visible. Some minor signs of wear to the metal base and wiring consistent with age and use.
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
I just received the absolutely gorgeous credenza yesterday. It was professionally packaged and delivered just as promised. I cannot more highly recommend AtKris Studio.
Excellent responsiveness, and with wonderful curatorial chops!
