Curved like a drawn bow, this sculptural Italian floor lamp from the 1950s/60s captures the spirit of mid-century experimentation. Elegant in its silhouette and commanding in presence, it bridges the clarity of functional design with the warmth of natural material.

Design

This floor lamp is constructed entirely from lacquered black wood, shaped into a dramatic arch that rises from a forked, claw-like base. The form is both grounded and agile, with a dynamic gesture that seems to defy gravity. From its upper tip, a conical off-white fabric shade is suspended by a metal ring, adding a subtle contrast in material and tone.

The base’s curved prongs give a sense of stability while echoing the overall organic line of the lamp. The construction and profile suggest a familiarity with both Scandinavian restraint and Japanese asymmetry, yet the choice of materials and scale place it squarely within the Italian post-war design tradition. The light is softly diffused through the fabric, casting an inviting glow ideal for reading or ambient lighting.

Though the designer is unknown, the refinement of the form and the quality of execution indicate it may have originated from a Northern Italian workshop or architect’s studio active during the late 1950s or early 1960s.

A rare sculptural lighting piece that combines expressive silhouette with considered proportion. It offers presence without visual weight—a floor lamp that reads like an architectural gesture.

Condition

The lamp is in good original condition with light wear consistent with age. The black lacquer finish has minor surface marks. The lamp is rewired and features a new lampshade.
