A wall of glass flowers becomes a source of light in this decorative pair of Italian sconces. Attributed to Barovier & Toso, the lamps combine the delicacy of Murano glass with a dense, almost architectural composition.

Design
Each wall light is built around a curved metal mesh frame, covered with individually formed clear glass flowers. Ribbed petals overlap one another in varying sizes, creating an irregular surface that changes considerably between daylight and illumination. Small green glass centres punctuate the transparent composition, bringing colour and definition to the floral pattern. From the sides, leaves and petals project beyond the frame, softening its rectangular outline and giving the lamps a more organic profile.

Behind this glass screen sit three E27 lamp fittings per sconce. Once illuminated, light passes through the layered petals, highlighting their moulded ribs and producing warm reflections across the glass. When switched off, the construction becomes more visible: the transparent flowers expose glimpses of the supporting metal grid and show how densely the individual elements have been assembled.

The pair is attributed to Barovier & Toso, one of Murano's longstanding glass manufacturers. The company's history is closely connected to Venetian glassmaking, with generations of the Barovier family working in glass for more than seven centuries. Floral elements have long formed part of the decorative vocabulary of Murano lighting, where repeated handmade components allow light to become part of the ornament itself. Comparable Barovier & Toso floral wall lights are dated to the 1960s, which may offer a useful reference point for these examples.

Used together, the sconces form a decorative pair with considerable presence without relying on opaque materials or heavy forms. Their combination of clear glass, small green accents and warm illumination works particularly well beside a mirror, across a hallway or as opposing lights within a larger room.

Condition
The wall lights are in good vintage condition, with signs of age and use visible on close inspection. Some variation, minor wear and small imperfections can be expected among the individual handmade glass elements.
