A composition of textured glass and warm light, these “PAN 3 WA” wall lamps by Kalmar reflect the sculptural approach to lighting that defined much of the Austrian manufacturer’s work during the 1970s. The lamp combines architectural clarity with the organic irregularities of cast glass. The layered arrangement creates a soft rhythm across the wall, where illumination becomes part of the object rather than a separate function.
Design
Each lamp consists of three thick relief cast crystal glass elements suspended from a nickel-plated armature. The vertically arranged glass pieces vary subtly in height and texture, creating a balanced composition with an architectural appearance. Once illuminated, the textured surfaces diffuse the light in multiple directions, producing warm reflections and elongated shadows against the wall.
Kalmar frequently experimented with this balance between industrial structure and expressive glasswork, often drawing from the visual language of Brutalist architecture and the growing interest in modular forms during the period.
The cast crystal glass gives the lamps a champaign-colored luminous and atmospheric presence, subtly interacting with the cooler tone of the concealed nickel-plated structure. Seen from different angles, the depth of the glass becomes more pronounced, revealing bubbles, irregularities and variations created during the casting process. Their restrained scale allows them to function equally well in a hallway, living room or hospitality interior, where the light effect becomes integrated into the surrounding architecture.
A refined example of seventies Austrian lighting design, where craftsmanship and materiality remain central to the visual experience.
Condition
The lamps remain in very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use visible on the metal structure. The cast glass elements are well preserved and retain their clarity and textured surface. The manufacturer’s label is still present on the inside of the armature.
I recently bought some amazing Artwork from AtKris Studio online. The whole experience was amazing. The transaction was amazingly efficient. The crating and shipping of the artwork to the United States from the Netherlands could not have gone smoother and the customer service was spot on!! Krista was amazing and I highly recommend AtKris Studio!
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
I just received the absolutely gorgeous credenza yesterday. It was professionally packaged and delivered just as promised. I cannot more highly recommend AtKris Studio.
