Joe Colombo was perhaps one of the most idiosyncratic designers of the twentieth century. With his progressive and especially futuristic designs, his name has become a permanent fixture in the canon of design. He designed this Nastro chair for the renowned Bonacina 1889 furniture company in 1964. This project was less about his curiosity towards new materials and their applicability, his standard approach, but rather about his creativity in a more traditional field. That of rattan and wicker.

Design

In 2016, Bonacina reissued the chair and at the same time gave it a modern innovative twist. This time the rattan follows a stricter line and is painted black and the rubber front feet are slightly higher than the rear feet, giving you better seating comfort. The seat and backrest consist of polyurethane cushions and are luxuriously covered with a removable off-white fabric with a small glitter in it.
