Carlo Nason, born into one of Murano's established glassmaking families, developed a distinctive approach to lighting that combined traditional craftsmanship with modern forms. His collaboration with AV Mazzega resulted in a series of sculptural lamps in which glass and light are closely connected. The LT316 Sfumato floor lamp is a characteristic example of this approach.

Design

The lamp consists of seven stacked glass elements, forming a tall cylindrical column crowned by a softly rounded dome. Each section is crafted from white-shaded glass, with a gradual transition between translucent and more opaque areas. This technique, known as sfumato, creates a subtle play of light and shadow across the surface.

A particularly interesting feature is the repetition of the individual glass sections. Their rounded contours introduce a gentle rhythm to the otherwise geometric composition. Horizontal divisions remain visible between the elements, emphasising the modular construction without disturbing the vertical silhouette.

Light is distributed throughout the column by several internal fittings, illuminating the glass from within. The graduated white finish softens the light, accentuating the curved patterns and differences in transparency. When switched off, these variations remain visible, giving the lamp a sculptural quality independent of its function.

Nason's design reflects his interest in using glass beyond its decorative qualities. Through repetition, proportion and the controlled diffusion of light, a relatively simple cylindrical structure acquires an architectural presence.

With its generous proportions and restrained composition, this LT316 functions equally well as an illuminated object and a freestanding sculpture. It is particularly suited to interiors where lighting contributes to the architectural arrangement of a room.

Condition

The condition of this lamp is excellent, with all seven glass elements intact and free from chips or cracks. Minor signs of age may be present on the metal components, consistent with the period of production.

I recently bought some amazing Artwork from AtKris Studio online. The whole experience was amazing. The transaction was amazingly efficient. The crating and shipping of the artwork to the United States from the Netherlands could not have gone smoother and the customer service was spot on!!  Krista was amazing and I highly recommend AtKris Studio!

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
