There is a quiet elegance in the way Murano glass captures and transforms light. This wall lamp, known as the “Bambu” model and produced by Venini, reflects the Venetian glassmaker’s enduring commitment to craftsmanship, material experimentation and refined lighting design.

Design

Created during the second half of the twentieth century, the “Bambu” wall lamp combines a sculptural presence with a restrained architectural form. The rectangular shade is executed in thick transparent Murano glass, moulded with a vertical relief that recalls the natural rhythm of bamboo stalks. When illuminated, these flowing ridges refract the light in countless directions, creating a subtle interplay of reflections and shadows across the surrounding wall.

Unlike many decorative lighting objects of the period, the design relies on texture rather than ornament. The substantial glass body appears almost carved, with its irregular surface introducing movement and depth. Brass mounting details provide a discreet contrast to the clear glass, lending warmth without distracting from the material itself. Seen from the side, the lamp reveals its considerable thickness, emphasising the quality of the glass and the technical expertise required to produce such a piece.

Venini has long occupied a central position within Murano’s glassmaking tradition, collaborating with leading designers and artists throughout the twentieth century. This model demonstrates the company’s ability to translate artisanal techniques into contemporary forms, resulting in a lighting object that feels equally at home in a modern interior, a mid-century setting or a carefully curated collection of Italian design.

Condition

The lamp remains in very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period. The glass presents well, retaining its clarity and texture, while the brass mounting elements show a gentle patina acquired over time.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
