This sculptural Dutch side table was produced in the Netherlands during the 1920s and is associated with the expressive furniture traditions of the Amsterdam School and the related Hague School. Crafted predominantly from oak and enriched with contrasting coromandel details, the table combines architectural construction with a remarkably fluid silhouette.

Design

A circular top with a subtly profiled edge rests above a broad, rounded apron. Four wide supports descend from beneath the top in pronounced sweeping curves, creating an open and rhythmical framework around the centre of the table. These bowed legs terminate in small, dark rounded feet and are embellished with carved, pendant-shaped coromandel ornaments. A circular lower shelf connects the construction visually and provides a practical surface for books, magazines or decorative objects.

The powerful curvature and expressive treatment of the supports are closely connected to the Amsterdam School, whose designers approached furniture as a form of domestic architecture. At the same time, the controlled geometry, solid oak construction and use of contrasting exotic wood reflect qualities commonly associated with the Hague School. The precise attribution remains open, but the table convincingly represents the inventive character of Dutch design between Expressionism and early modernism.

Despite its compact proportions, the piece has a strong sculptural presence and can be appreciated from every angle. Its warm oak grain, dark decorative accents and balanced circular composition make it particularly suitable as a side table, occasional table or distinctive pedestal within both historic and contemporary interiors.

Condition

The table is partially restored, preserving its natural character and warm patina. It remains in good vintage condition, with surface marks, fine scratches, colour variations and minor age-related imperfections consistent with its age and careful use.
