Some objects move without motion. This Italian dining table from the 1950s, attributed to Osvaldo Borsani, balances weight and detail in a way that feels both engineered and composed. It stands with confidence but never feels heavy.

Design

The structure is architectural—two wide pillar legs support a thick rectangular top, all finished in deep-toned indian rosewood wood veneer. Each vertical support is rounded at the edge and features fine inlay bands in contrasting wood (maple wood), running horizontally and wrapping each panel. This same motif returns along the edge of the tabletop, subtly articulating its geometry. The corners are eased, and the overhang gives the top a floating quality. From a distance, the table reads as solid and clean; up close, the inlay reveals careful craftsmanship and a rhythmic layout. Proportion does most of the work here. Borsani’s hand can be seen in the balance of bold volume and refined line. There’s no unnecessary gesture—just control, warmth, and a sense of construction.

Overall, the piece reflects the transitional period between deco elegance and modernist clarity. It holds the middle space without compromise.

Condition

Condition is very good as it has been profesionally restored. Minor signs of wear on the veneer consistent with age as well as some repairs - no structural concerns.
