A sculptural approach to function defines this Italian writing desk, where structure and material are held in careful balance. Produced by MIM Roma in the late 1950s, it reflects a moment in Italian design where architecture informed even the most domestic objects.

Design

The desk is executed in richly grained rosewood veneer, selected for its linear pattern and tonal depth. Its asymmetric top introduces a subtle curvature, softening the otherwise angular composition and offering a more intimate working surface. Supporting the top, the trestle-style legs form a geometric framework, almost architectural in presence, with carefully chamfered edges that catch the light. A suspended drawer unit appears to float beneath the surface, adding both storage and visual tension. Aluminium handles provide a restrained contrast to the warmth of the wood, reinforcing the modernist intent. Fazioli’s approach leans towards clarity in construction, where each element remains legible and purposeful. The interplay between solid volume and open space gives the piece a certain lightness, uncommon for desks of this scale.

A desk that stands confidently within an interior, suitable as a focal point in a study or open living space. Its sculptural base allows it to be positioned freely, rather than against a wall.

The desk has the original 'mim-roma' sticker

Condition

The condition is very good as the desk has been professionally, partially restored.

"

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
