Architecture meets cabinetmaking in this Italian presidential desk by Luciano Frigerio. African walnut brings warmth to its geometric composition, with layered wooden detailing giving the desk a sculptural presence.

Design
The rectangular top rests on two broad panel supports, framing an open central space for seating. Across the drawer fronts, stepped rectangular mouldings create a rhythm of light and shadow. Matching vertical details on the supports carry this composition towards the floor, connecting the different elements of the desk.

African walnut displays a varied grain, with golden-brown tones running through darker areas. A long decorative arrangement of contrasting wooden strips extends across the desktop, echoing the linear treatment of the drawers below. These details give the surface interest even when left clear.

Three drawers sit beneath the top on the working side, providing storage for stationery and documents. Their wooden pulls are incorporated into the geometric fronts, keeping the composition consistent. On the opposite side, a straight, finished surface allows the desk to stand freely in a room.

Luciano Frigerio’s approach to furniture brought cabinetmaking into dialogue with sculpture. Here, that connection is expressed through repeated geometry and the treatment of wood. A circular brass plate bearing his signature is fitted to the side.

Suitable for a private study or executive office, this desk rewards placement where its proportions and finished surfaces can be appreciated from several angles.

Condition
Completely restored in AtKris Studio’s in-house workshop, the desk presents beautifully, with its wood grain and decorative detailing clearly defined. The brass signature plate remains in place.
