A fine example of architectural sensitivity translated into furniture, the Gritti table by Carlo Scarpa reveals its full presence in space. Part of the Simon collection, it is a piece that shows how thoughtful proportion and bold materials can work together seamlessly. Designed in 1973 for Simon - the design brand founded that year by Dino Gavia and Maria Simoncini.

Design

The table’s robust frame, built from cylindrical stained wooden legs and horizontal bars, provides a graphic structure. On top rests a newly upholstered beige tabletop, subtly updated yet true to the original spirit. The generous length, as seen in proportion to a standing figure and six surrounding chairs, confirms its scale – made to host and gather. While minimalist in appearance, the Gritti table is not without nuance. Scarpa’s language is present in the rhythm of the structural bars beneath, and in the clean tension between the tabletop’s overhang and the solid base. This version bears the original Simon branding underneath, visible through the close-up shot of the fabric. The result is a calm, balanced table that embodies Scarpa’s eye for weight, rhythm, and space.

An iconic piece by one of Italy’s most influential designers. The Gritti table offers both presence and clarity in its form.

Condition

The piece is in very good condition. The upholstery is recently renewed and the frame shows only minor signs of use consistent with age.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
