Designed during a pivotal era for Venini, this ‘Model 831’ table lamp captures the innovation and clarity of vision that defined Ludovico Diaz de Santillana’s work. Created in the 1960s, this model holds its place among the more experimental pieces of the time, reflecting both technical skill and a refined approach to material expression.

Design

The lamp features a clear Murano glass sphere with an internal décor of vibrant orange filigrana rods that rise from the base like flame-tipped stems. Each glass rod appears to have been individually applied, curving gently upward and stopping just short of the top, leaving the upper dome entirely transparent. This contrast between density and openness adds a sculptural rhythm to the whole. When illuminated, the lamp emits a soft glow that filters through the orange detailing, projecting delicate linear shadows around its surroundings. The coloration intensifies in the lit state, revealing the subtle irregularities and hand-crafted nature of the internal decoration. Although designed as a lamp, the piece remains equally impactful when off, with the visual weight of a standalone object. A subtle opening at the top allows heat to escape while also suggesting a dual function—as a vessel or vase—though its primary intention remains as a light source.

This lamp offers a clear view into Venini’s more expressive production of the era, guided by Santillana’s sensitivity to form and material.

Condition

The lamp is in very good condition with minimal signs of wear. The glass is free of chips or cracks, and the electrical components function properly.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
