Few designers shaped the identity of post-war Italian furniture as profoundly as Osvaldo Borsani. Through Tecno, the company he founded with his twin brother Fulgenzio in 1953, Borsani introduced a new vision of office furniture in which technical innovation and refined craftsmanship existed in perfect balance. This early version of the celebrated Model T95 desk reflects that philosophy and marks an important chapter in the evolution of Italian modern design.

Designed during the mid-1950s, the T95 was conceived as a practical executive desk with an architectural presence. Rather than relying on ornament, Borsani created a composition of clean horizontal planes and suspended storage elements that give the desk a remarkable sense of lightness. The generous floating worktop appears to hover above two independent pedestal units, supported by black lacquered steel uprights that connect to an elegant steel base with brass-capped feet.

This example is an earlier version of the T95, retaining the refined detailing characteristic of the first models manufactured by Tecno. The expansive top is finished in beautifully figured mahogany veneer, its uninterrupted grain emphasizing the desk's long, horizontal silhouette. One pedestal houses three drawers with elegantly shaped solid brass pulls, while the opposite side combines three drawers with an open storage compartment, creating a practical balance between enclosed and accessible storage. Both pedestal units are fitted with locks and retain their original keys.

The restrained palette of warm mahogany, black lacquered steel and naturally aged brass reflects Borsani's preference for timeless materials rather than decorative excess. Every junction has been carefully considered, demonstrating Tecno's reputation for exceptional engineering and production quality. The result is a desk that feels both visually light and structurally assured, qualities that became hallmarks of the company's furniture throughout the 1950s and beyond.

Condition

‍The desk remains in very good vintage condition with minor signs of use consistent with age. The mahogany veneer has acquired a warm patina, complemented by gently aged brass hardware and a well-preserved black lacquered steel frame. One corner of the return top shows a visible restoration, carried out sympathetically. The original keys are present.
