Some objects draw attention through ornament, others through the quiet confidence of their form. This Murano table lamp belongs to the latter category. Crafted from blown glass and shaped into a refined tapering silhouette, it demonstrates the enduring appeal of Venetian glassmaking, where colour, transparency and light become part of the design itself.

Design

Produced on the island of Murano during the 1970s, this lamp reflects a period in which Italian glassmakers experimented with sculptural forms and layered colour compositions. The body is executed in thick art glass, featuring flowing bands of opaque white and deep ruby-red encased within clear crystal. These elongated motifs rise organically from the base towards the neck, creating a sense of movement across the surface.

The flared profile gives the piece a balanced architectural presence. Light interacts continuously with the varying densities of glass, revealing different tones throughout the day. When illuminated, the red inclusions become more vibrant and acquire additional depth, while the white elements soften the overall composition. Rather than relying on applied decoration, the pattern is fully integrated within the glass itself, highlighting the technical skill required to control multiple colours during the blowing process.

Its sculptural quality allows the lamp to function equally well as an atmospheric light source and as a decorative object. Positioned on a side table, console or bedside cabinet, it introduces colour and material richness without overwhelming its surroundings. The combination of organic patterning and restrained form is characteristic of many Murano creations from the period.

Condition

The lamp is in very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use visible upon close inspection. The glass remains free from cracks or structural damage, and the light functions as intended. The shade is a later replacement.
