Model 8102 chairs for MIM Roma reflect the innovative design direction of Giuseppe Zammerini during a pivotal period in Italian post-war furniture production. Created between 1960 and 1963, the model was conceived as part of MIM’s push toward refined office and executive seating.

Design

Composed of a solid wood frame with a cantilevered seat, each chair reveals a careful interplay between structure and comfort. The curved plywood backrest wraps around the sitter with controlled tension, while the seat is supported by leather slings, fastened beneath by adjustable buckles.

Zammerini’s approach is evident in the chair’s technical solutions, where functionality is not disguised but celebrated through honest materials and visible connections. The rear legs extend diagonally to meet the arms and support the backrest, giving the chair a distinctive side profile. The seat’s leather upholstery, original to the piece, has aged gracefully, showing the natural wear expected of executive furniture that once occupied high-level interiors in 1960s Italy.

Produced by MIM Roma during a brief three-year window, the 8102 model remains relatively rare today and is appreciated by collectors for its balance of minimalism and elegance. One of the chairs has a MiM Roma sticker on it.

Condition

Both chairs remain in very good condition. The two chairs have a different shade of wood; one being lighter than the other. The wood surfaces show gentle wear in line with age, and the original leather seats exhibit a rich patina without structural damage. The chairs are partially restored in our restoration workshop.
