A restrained composition where material and structure meet in quiet harmony. Rooted in the Amsterdam School tradition, this set reflects a period where expression was embedded in craftsmanship rather than excess.

Design

Each chair is built from a solid wooden frame, likely walnut or stained beech, with a warm tone that anchors the design. The backrests are executed in Coromandel veneer, their vivid, almost flame-like grain introducing a strong visual rhythm. This interplay between expressive surface and grounded construction aligns with the principles of the Amsterdam School, where sculptural presence and artisanal detail were carefully balanced. The slightly faceted top corners of the backrests soften the geometry, giving the chairs a composed yet distinctive outline. Armrests on the two larger chairs extend in a direct, horizontal gesture, reinforcing the architectural clarity of the set. Seats are upholstered in a subtly striped textile, adding texture without disturbing the visual calm. Joinery is integrated with care, transitions between elements remain understated, and the overall construction suggests a workshop attentive to both durability and form. A reupholstery could be considered, allowing the set to be adapted to a more contemporary interior or to highlight the original proportions with a different textile choice.

A coherent ensemble that carries presence without excess, suited to both dining environments and more contemplative interior settings.

Condition

The set remains in good condition with signs of use consistent with age. Minor wear is visible on the wooden surfaces and light marks appear on the upholstery; the latter would benefit from renewal. The veneer retains a consistent patina.
