Toni Zuccheri approached glass as a living material, capable of movement, texture and atmosphere. This rare set of three wall lamps, model 825 “Quilt”, designed for Venini during the 1970s, reflects that vision with a sculptural presence that shifts between object and illumination. The textured surfaces catch and diffuse light in an almost liquid manner, creating changing reflections across the surrounding wall.

Design

Each lamp is composed of a thick moulded glass panel with a flowing tea-brown band crossing through the centre. The contrast between the clear textured glass and the warm amber tone introduces depth and rhythm to the composition. Rather than applying decoration onto the surface, Zuccheri integrated colour directly into the glass mass, allowing the material itself to define the character of the piece. The undulating relief recalls moving water or folded textile, which likely explains the “Quilt” designation used by Venini.

Mounted onto a white lacquered metal frame, the glass panels appear almost suspended in front of the wall. Once illuminated, the lamps produce a warm diffused glow with layered reflections that extend beyond the fixture itself. The organic contours soften the geometric square format and give the lamps a distinctly architectural quality. Zuccheri, who worked closely with Venini throughout the 1960s and 1970s, became known for combining Murano craftsmanship with a more experimental and sculptural language. These lamps sit firmly within that period of Italian lighting design where material and atmosphere became inseparable.

A composition that functions equally well as ambient lighting and as a sculptural wall installation. Displayed together, the three lamps create a rhythmic interplay of texture, transparency and warm colour.

Condition

The set remains in very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use consistent with time. Glass panels are well preserved with no noteworthy damages observed. The lacquered frames show light wear in places.
The lamps each contain one light bulb with an E27 fitting, concealed behind the moulded Murano glass panel. Once illuminated, the textured glass softly diffuses the light and enhances the warm amber tones running through the centre of the composition.
