Some objects define a room without raising their voice. This dining table from the 1970s captures that quiet authority, balancing sculptural presence with clarity of line. Its composition reflects the experimental spirit of the decade, when designers sought new dialogues between glass, lacquer and brass.

Design

At the centre stands an elliptical pedestal composed of vertical lacquered wooden slats, interspersed with brass-toned metal strips that have developed a warm patina over time. The rhythm of these repeated elements creates a refined play of light and shadow, giving the cylindrical volume both texture and depth. Brass accents introduce contrast to the cream lacquer, their aged surface adding character. Resting above, an oval glass top appears to float, its green-tinted edge characteristic of the period. In the middle, a smaller laminated oval element mirrors the outline of the base, anchoring the composition and reinforcing the geometry. The layered construction gives the table cohesion; base and top echo one another in proportion and contour. The transparency of the glass keeps the sculptural pedestal fully visible from every angle.

There is a certain affinity with the work of Gabriella Crespi, particularly in the dialogue between repetition, brass detailing and architectural form. Whether intentional or coincidental, the resemblance places this piece firmly within the sphere of high Italian design of the 1970s.

Condition

The condition is good, with visible signs of age. The lacquered top element shows wear (well visible on the pictures), and the brass strips display patination and light oxidation consistent with time.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
