Some objects quietly define a space through proportion and balance rather than ornament. This Italian side table is one of those designs, combining carefully considered geometry with refined materials to create a piece that remains relevant many decades after its production.

Design
Crafted in Italy during the mid-century period, this side table presents a sculptural composition centred around a circular mirrored top resting on an architectural wooden base. The construction relies on four tapering supports that rise from a cross-shaped stretcher, creating an open structure that feels both stable and visually light. The intersecting base introduces a subtle sense of movement, drawing the eye towards the centre before leading it outward to the elegant silhouette of the tabletop.

Dark stained wood, most likely mahogany veneer, is paired with contrasting lighter timber along the inner edges of the supports. This restrained contrast accentuates the geometry without becoming decorative. The mirrored top reflects its surroundings and softens the visual weight of the base, adding depth and light to the composition. The combination of luxurious veneer, mirrored glass and balanced proportions reflects the Italian approach to furniture design during the 1940s and 1950s, when craftsmanship and architectural form became increasingly intertwined.

Equally suited as a side table beside a sofa or lounge chair, or as a centre table in a smaller seating arrangement, the piece offers a sculptural presence from every viewing angle. Its clean lines allow it to complement both modern and more traditional interiors

Condition
The table remains in good vintage condition with signs of age and careful use. The mirrored top shows light wear and the wooden edge has minor marks and small losses consistent with its age, all visible in the photographs and contributing to its authentic character.
