A distinctive Italian modernist round dining table in the style of Duilio “Dubè” Barnabè, dating from the second half of the 1950s. Its richly decorated glass top combines painterly abstraction with the refined material experimentation associated with post-war Italian design.
The underside retains a Credito Romagnolo inventory label numbered 14572, providing evidence of former institutional ownership by the historic Bologna bank.

Design

The substantial circular glass top is decorated on its reverse with an energetic abstract composition of intersecting geometric forms. Areas of red, grey, black and white are combined with metallic-gold passages, producing changing visual effects as light moves across the surface.

The composition balances angular structures with more freely painted elements, giving the tabletop the character of an autonomous work of art. It rests on a black-enamelled metal pedestal terminating in four splayed feet with brass-mounted ends. The restrained architectural base provides a strong contrast to the colour and movement of the glass.

The combination of reverse-painted glass, dark metal and brass closely reflects the vocabulary found in tables created by Barnabè in collaboration with Fontana Arte during the 1950s.

Condition

The table remains in good vintage condition, with wear consistent with age and institutional use. The glass shows surface scratches and edge wear. There are small areas of localized deterioration, loss and discoloration to the reverse decoration. The enamelled base has marks, scratches and finish wear, while the brass elements display natural oxidation and patination. A detailed condition report is available on request.
