A quiet sense of balance defines this travertine coffee table. Reduced to its essential geometry, the design relies on the natural character of stone rather than ornament. The generous proportions, rounded edges and low profile create a calm architectural presence that sits comfortably in both contemporary and more traditional interiors.

Design

Carved entirely from cream-coloured travertine, the table consists of a substantial square top resting on four cylindrical legs positioned near each corner. The softly rounded perimeter of the top contrasts with the robust cylindrical supports, creating a composition that feels both solid and light. Delicate veins, warm tonal variations and the characteristic pores of the travertine ensure that no two examples are exactly alike, allowing the material itself to become the defining decorative element.

The restrained design reflects the enduring appreciation for natural stone furniture that emerged during the 1970s and 1980s. Influenced by architectural minimalism, designers increasingly favoured honest materials and uncomplicated forms that celebrated craftsmanship instead of decoration. Here, the careful finishing of the rounded edges and the harmonious proportions demonstrate an understanding of balance rather than excess. Whether placed in a living room, gallery-like interior or hospitality setting, the table functions equally well as a sculptural centrepiece or a practical everyday coffee table.

Its understated character allows it to pair effortlessly with soft upholstery, warm woods or polished metals, creating an interior where texture and material become the focal point rather than embellishment.

Condition

The table remains in very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use consistent with its history. The travertine retains a pleasing surface patina, with natural pores and small variations that are inherent to the material rather than imperfections.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
